Galaxy Celebrates 20 Years
Galaxy Broadband Communications Inc., a Canadian satellite communications company that provides IP networks to the Resource, Government and Enterprise markets in North America announced today that it is celebrating 20 years with 12 months of events, new product launches and aggressive market growth.
“We are very excited about this landmark year. As a pioneer in satellite communications in Canada, it is amazing to see that Galaxy has become the second largest Enterprise and Residential satellite broadband provider” stated Rick Hodgkinson, founder, CEO and President of Galaxy. “We know that Canadians are excited about our service and the announcements this year will definitely be worth waiting for”.
Galaxy was initially founded in 1992 to service the growing Canadian legal C Band television programing appetite. They quickly expanded into the fledgling 2 way high speed satellite Internet business by reselling Hughes DirecWay systems. It became apparent quickly that a more robust Enterprise service was being requested by the Resource and Government markets.
Galaxy installed their own Hughes DVB-S2 HUB in 2008 in Hamilton and then moved it to the Telesat facilities in Toronto. They then build their second DVB-S2 HUB in 2010 at the Telesat teleport in Vancouver. From these two HUBs, Galaxy covers thousands of customers across North America and the Caribbean.
“It is the heritage of our past that helps us deliver our service today and into the future” reflects Rick. “No one could have predicted our success and I need to thank a lot of people along the way especially our customers, employees and suppliers who believed in us from the start”.
