Canadians continue to be among the most frequent and heaviest Internet users in the world today, while nearly nine in ten above the age of 12 have been online at some point in their lives. In 2007, 94% of internet users reported that they logged on from home, but more than half of rural and small town residents using a slower service like dialup do not have the option for a high-speed connection in their area......UNTIL NOW!

The internet is quickly becoming custom for Canadians' communication needs. About 96% of Canadians use a traditional phone line and spend an average of 3.5 hours a week talking on the phone. But, approximately one in five of those people have claimed that the internet has largely or completely replaced its use for communication. In this day and age, it is becoming extremely important to stay connected to what's going on in the world and the internet has become an integral part of society. Don't be that one person who is kept out of the loop, get connected with high-speed internet today.

  • The most popular information-related activities on the internet today include checking maps for directions, reading the news, checking for weather/traffic conditions, researching health & medical issues, and travel information
  • Widely spreading in popularity is entertainment-related searching for things like movies, concerts, performing art schedules, books, cultural events, community events, etc.
  • More than half (57%) of Canadians perform at least one search through an online search engine daily while many of these people choose a search-related site like Google as their homepage

  • About 4 out of 5 (79%) of Canadian internet users regularly go online to check local, national or international news sites

  • Canada is one of the world's most developed markets for online banking and lead the world in online banking usage
  • In April 2008, it was reported that 67.1% of Canadian internet users were banking online, saving them travel costs, time, and giving them access to view and partake in any banking activity they want right at their fingertips
  • Canadians spent an average of 46 minutes a month logged in to their personal banking account which is typically how long it would take to complete one visit to the bank to deposit a cheque at the teller

SHOPPING

  • Nearly half (48%) of Canadian internet users have purchased a product online
  • The most popular e-commerce activity is researching online for information on products and services, and 3 out of every 4 of these users actually purchase the product after performing their research
  • 77% of Canadian internet users research products to become more aware of the marketplace
  • Books, stocks & bonds, clothes, music and travel arrangements are the most frequently purchased goods and services online

ENTERTAINMENT

  • Internet was once viewed solely as a form of entertainment, but today lots of Canadians view it as more of a household utility
  • More than half of all internet users in Canada download or listen to music online, a trend that has been growing rapidly
  • Other popular online activities include visiting television program websites, playing games, downloading/watching videos and listening to streaming radio
  • Most Canadians (77%) browse the internet at times for no particular reason or destination in mind, and half of these people do so regularily indicating that non-specific internet use and the experience of being online is very important to Canadians
