Download Manager - Quick Start Guide

What the HughesNet Download Manager (HDM) does:
The primary job of the HDM is to schedule downloads at a specific time in the future. This scheduling flexibility allows Galaxy Broadband users the ability to take advantage of the Download Zone, a period between 2am - 7am in which Galaxy users can download files and applications without affecting their download threshold. The HDM allows users to add content and choose when content will be downloaded. HDM users can choose to use a managed manual download, an automated immediate download, or a scheduled download.

The HDM works with your browser to manage downloads and will prompt you to select how you'd like to manage your download. The HDM does not manage or intercept Windows updates, iTunes downloads, or other background application updates.

System Requirements
In order to install the HDM, you'll need to have a Windows XP or Vista 32-bit operating system. Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers are supported. While the HDM may work with other browsers and Windows-based operating systems, they are not supported by Galaxy.

HDM Installation
Be sure to close any open applications, including browsers. Click the FREE Download button to begin the installation. Simply follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation. The HDM will automatically detect your browsers during the installation and set the default schedule for the Download Zone based on your local time.

During the installation, the HDM is set to use the Easy Mode which uses a simple menu to choose how files are downloaded. See the Help file for instructions on how to enable more controls for advanced users.

To uninstall the HDM, close your browser. Select Uninstall HughesNet Download Manager from the program menu.

How do I use the HughesNet Download Manager?
Simply click on the file you want to download. If the file is smaller than 10MB, your browser will manage the download. If the file is larger than 10MB, the HDM will open the "New Download" window. You can also drag any file to the DropBox. The HDM will manage those downloads regardless of file size.

Choose to download using the HDM default schedule to download the file during the Download Zone. This will virtually eliminate exceeding your download threshold related to file downloads.

Choose Download Now to download content you need immediately. When the download has completed, open the HDM main window and double-click the file you downloaded to open it.

If you want to bypass the HDM, click Use Browser to Download. The download will now be managed by your browser or browser-based add-on.

If you choose the Download Now or Use Browser option, you will be presented with a reminder that downloads outside of the Download Zone may increase your chances of being subjected to exceeding your download threshold.

What else should I do before I use the HDM?
We recommend that you configure the HDM to use your anti-virus software. See the Download Options section of the Help file for additional information about selecting your anti-virus software.

How does the HDM know what time to use for the scheduled downloads?
During the installation, the HDM connects to several Internet Time servers to determine what the Universal Time Constant (UTC) is for your location and compares it to the UTC for Germantown, Maryland (East Coast).

Using this information, the HDM adjusts your local scheduled time to coincide with the Download Zone times. In other words, the Download Zone is 2am - 7am your local time. If your firewall is configured to block access to Internet Time Servers (NNTP), the HDM will use the time from your PC to determine the scheduled times.

To ensure that the HDM does not start scheduled downloads too soon, scheduled downloads will start at five minutes after the Download Zone opens and end five minutes prior to the end. Scheduled downloads that do not complete will resume downloading the file during the next Download Zone session.

How do I know the HDM is running?
When first installed, the HDM will display a floating icon called a DropBox on the lower right corner of your screen and you'll see a new icon in the system tray. You can right-click on either icon to open the HDM main window.

How do I remove the DropBox?
Simply right-click on the DropBox. There will be a check next to DropBox in the menu. Select DropBox and the icon will disappear. If you want it back, right-click on the HDM system tray icon and click DropBox.
